Café Madelaine is a French Bakery and Pastry shop located at 34 Coles Street, Jersey City, NJ 07302
We opened in 2018 and have been serving the Jersey City and Hoboken area since 🍰
The chef and owner of Café Madelaine is Anne Dufour.
Anne comes from a family of French chefs, her great grandfather was a chef on the biggest ship in the world: Le France, her uncle was a chef in prestigious restaurants in New York, and her mom was a pastry chef for the White House.
Anne has worked for 18 years in France, in Saint Tropez, Cannes even Monaco, she worked and ran multiple venues catering an upscale experience to locals, travelers and weddings.
“In Cannes I specialized in providing incredible experiences to yacht owners for 5 years, a very demanding crowd but an exciting experience!” - Anne
She also worked outside of France in places like London or Saint Martin Island in the Caribbeans. After all those experiences, the itch to come to the Unites States took her to New York in 2012.
She opened a first French establishment in the financial district called “the French café gourmand” but after moving to an apartment in Jersey City she got excited to start a new café here. So in 2012, Café Madelaine opened on 34 Coles Street.
Since then, Café Madelaine is the best Quiche in town and the perfect stop for a café au lait on the way to work.
“All the food at Café Madelaine is based on French recipes, from the bread used for our sandwiches to our pastry recipes, it’s all genuinely French” - Anne
That’s why Café Madelaine is known in the neighborhood for the homemade flavors of all its pastries, sandwiches and salads.
Anne's grandmother was named Madelaine and she has been a great source of inspiration for Anne her entire life.
Café Madelaine is a homage to her grandmother, it's the cozy place you go to when you need something that feels good from the moment you see it to the moment you bite into it.
We hope to see you soon, À bientôt !
